cash grab
Cynical profit scheme
A cash grab is a product, project, or decision designed primarily to extract money rather than provide genuine value.
The term is almost always pejorative, implying cynical motives: The sequel was an obvious cash grab.
Common in discussions of entertainment, where studios release inferior sequels, remakes, or merchandise to capitalize on existing popularity.
Also appears as a verb phrase: They're just trying to cash grab before the franchise dies.
