A car GPS is a navigation device mounted in a vehicle that uses satellite signals to determine location and provide turn-by-turn directions.
The term covers both dedicated units attached to the dashboard and smartphone apps serving the same purpose: The car GPS said to turn left, but the road was closed.
Before smartphones became universal, standalone car GPS units were common accessories.
