OBD

Vehicle fault reader

OBD stands for on-board diagnostics, a standardized system in vehicles that monitors engine performance and emissions.

When something goes wrong, the OBD system stores error codes that mechanics retrieve with a scanning tool: The check engine light came on, so I had them run the OBD.

OBD-II is the current standard, required in all cars sold in the U.S. since 1996.
