bursaries

Educational financial awards

Bursaries are financial awards given to students to help pay for education, typically based on financial need rather than academic merit.

The term is more common in British, Canadian, and Commonwealth usage than American English, where scholarship or grant often covers similar ground.

A bursary usually doesn't require repayment: She received a bursary to cover her tuition fees.
