bulla

Fluid-filled sac

A bulla is a blister or blister-like structure—a fluid-filled sac on the skin or, in medicine, an air-filled cavity in the lung.

In archaeology, a bulla is a clay seal or pendant, especially the hollow clay balls used in ancient Mesopotamia to enclose tokens for record-keeping, or the protective amulets worn by Roman children.

Plural: bullae.
