baited

Set to tempt

Baited describes something fitted with bait to attract prey: a baited hook, a baited trap.

By extension, baited can mean lured or enticed: He walked right into the baited question.

The phrase with baited breath is a common misspelling of "bated breath," where bated (from abate) means held or restrained.
