bearbaiting
Dogs attack chained ursine
Bearbaiting was a blood sport in which dogs were set upon a chained bear for entertainment.
Popular in England from medieval times through the early 19th century, it was eventually banned as cruel.
The term now appears mainly in historical contexts or as a metaphor for organized harassment: The hearing devolved into political bearbaiting.
