bugger
British mild expletive
Bugger is a British and Commonwealth term with a range from serious to almost affectionate.
Originally it meant someone who practices buggery (anal sex), from medieval accusations against Bulgarian heretics.
As a noun, bugger now usually means a person in a neutral or sympathetic way: The poor bugger lost his job.
You lucky bugger.
As an exclamation, it expresses frustration: Oh bugger, I've missed the train.
As a verb, it can mean to ruin: That's buggered the whole plan.
Common phrases include bugger off (go away), bugger all (nothing whatsoever), and I'll be buggered (expression of surprise).
The word is mild enough for casual speech but still vulgar.
