That nameless somebody
So-and-so is a placeholder for a name you don't know, can't remember, or don't care to specify: She told me so-and-so from accounting called.
It can also be a mild insult for someone you dislike but won't name directly: That so-and-so never returned my tools.
The plural is so-and-sos.
