brittlestar

Slender-armed sea creature

A brittlestar is a marine animal related to starfish, with a central disk and five long, slender arms that move in a snake-like motion.

Unlike starfish, their arms are sharply distinct from the body and break off easily when handled—hence the name.

They live on the ocean floor, often hiding under rocks or in crevices.
