booklice

Tiny library pests

Booklice are tiny soft-bodied insects that feed on mold, fungi, and starchy materials found in old books, wallpaper paste, and stored grains.

Despite the name, they're not true lice and don't bite humans.

They thrive in humid environments and are more nuisance than pest: The dusty attic was crawling with booklice.
