drain fly
Fuzzy pipe insect
A drain fly is a small fuzzy moth-like insect that breeds in the organic sludge lining sink drains, shower drains, and sewage pipes.
Also called moth flies or sewer gnats.
They appear suddenly in bathrooms and kitchens, hovering near drains in small numbers: We've got drain flies again—time to clean the pipes.
