boneset

Ague-treating wildflower

Boneset is a North American plant with clusters of small white flowers, traditionally used in folk medicine to treat fevers and other ailments.

The name reflects an old belief that it could help heal broken bones, though it was more commonly employed against dengue fever, once called breakbone fever for the severe joint pain it caused.

Grandmother brewed boneset tea whenever anyone came down with a cold.
