back cracking
Chiropractic joint popping
Back cracking is the practice of manipulating the spine to produce popping sounds, either through self-adjustment or treatment by a chiropractor or other practitioner.
The sound comes from gas bubbles releasing in the joints.
Some find it relieving; others find it unsettling: I love the feeling after a good back cracking.
Also called spinal manipulation in clinical contexts.
