blue tang

Bright tropical fish

A blue tang is a brightly colored surgeonfish native to coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic, popular in saltwater aquariums.

The species has an oval body, vivid blue coloring, and a sharp spine near its tail—the "tang" that gives surgeonfish their name.

The character Dory in *Finding Nemo* brought the Pacific blue tang widespread recognition.
