Total loss consciousness
A black-out is a loss of consciousness or memory, often from alcohol, trauma, or medical causes: I had a complete black-out and don't remember getting home.
It also means a power failure plunging an area into darkness, or the deliberate extinguishing of lights during wartime air raids.
A news black-out is suppression of information.
