ARP
IP-to-hardware mapper
ARP stands for Address Resolution Protocol, a networking protocol that maps IP addresses to physical hardware addresses on a local network.
Network administrators use ARP tables to troubleshoot connectivity issues: I ran an ARP scan to find all devices on the subnet.
In British historical contexts, ARP also referred to Air Raid Precautions during World War II—the civil defense measures and wardens who enforced blackouts and guided civilians to shelters. (Capitalized Arp is a surname.)
