birthrights
Privileges from birth
Birthrights are privileges or possessions that belong to someone by virtue of their birth.
The term often refers to inheritance rights of firstborn sons in traditional societies, as in the biblical story of Esau selling his birthright to Jacob.
More broadly, birthrights are entitlements claimed simply by being born: Freedom of speech is our birthright.
The word carries weight—losing or selling one's birthright suggests trading something precious for short-term gain.
