big one

That impressive specimen

A big one is an instance of something notably large or significant within its category.

Often it refers to a major earthquake, especially the long-predicted catastrophic one: Everyone in California is waiting for the big one.

It can also mean a large sum of money, typically a thousand dollars: That'll cost you fifty big ones.

In casual speech, it's any particularly impressive specimen: I caught a big one fishing yesterday.
