microseism
Tiny ground vibration
A microseism is a faint tremor in the earth's crust that isn't caused by an earthquake.
These tiny vibrations are typically generated by ocean waves, atmospheric pressure changes, or human activity like traffic and industrial machinery.
Microseisms create a constant low-level background noise that seismologists must filter out when analyzing earthquake data, though they can also be studied to learn about ocean wave patterns and storm activity.
