betide
Happen to someone
Betide is an archaic or literary verb meaning to happen or come to pass, almost always appearing in the fixed phrase woe betide, which warns of misfortune befalling someone who does a particular thing: Woe betide anyone who crosses her.
Outside this expression, betide rarely appears in modern English except for deliberate stylistic effect.
