beardtongue

Snapdragon's prairie cousin

Beardtongue is a North American wildflower with tubular blooms, named for the tuft of fine hairs on one of its stamens.

The flowers grow in clusters along tall spikes and attract hummingbirds and bees.

Also called penstemon, the plant's genus name: The beardtongues are blooming along the trail.
