mason bee

Mud-nesting garden bee

A mason bee is a solitary bee that builds its nest using mud or other masonry materials rather than wax.

Unlike honeybees, mason bees don't live in colonies or produce honey.

They're valued as efficient pollinators and often encouraged in gardens: We put up a mason bee house to help with the apple trees.
