Cramped poultry enclosure
A battery cage is a small wire enclosure used in industrial egg production, housing hens in tight rows stacked in tiers—the "battery" arrangement.
The cages restrict movement severely, allowing little more than standing and feeding.
Battery cages have been banned in several countries on animal welfare grounds.
