A barrelman is a lookout stationed in a barrel or platform high on a ship's mast, scanning the horizon for land, ice, or other vessels.
The term also applies to a rodeo worker who uses a barrel as a protective shield when distracting bulls away from fallen riders.
In baseball broadcasting, a barrelman is the statistician who supplies facts and figures to the announcer.
