backward pass
Toss behind you
A backward pass in American football is a pass thrown to a teammate who is behind or lateral to the passer, as opposed to a forward pass which travels toward the opponent's goal line.
Unlike forward passes, any player can throw a backward pass from anywhere on the field, and if it hits the ground it remains a live ball that either team can recover.
In machine learning, the backward pass is the phase of training where error gradients are calculated by propagating from output back through the network's layers, enabling the model to learn by adjusting its weights.
