feedforward

Input-driven signal propagation

Feedforward describes a system or process where information flows in one direction, from input to output, without looping back.

In neural networks, a feedforward architecture passes data through layers sequentially: The model uses a simple feedforward network.

In control systems, feedforward anticipates disturbances rather than reacting to errors after they occur—the opposite of feedback.

The term also appears in management and communication contexts, where feedforward means offering suggestions for future improvement rather than critiquing past performance: Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, let's focus on feedforward.
