backdating
Falsifying earlier dates
Backdating is assigning an earlier date to a document than when it was actually created or signed.
The practice ranges from innocent—dating a check for the day you meant to write it—to fraudulent: backdating stock options to a more favorable price, or contracts to create false paper trails.
The executive was convicted of backdating options grants.
