babytalk

Cooing and burbling

Babytalk is the simplified speech adults use when addressing infants—higher pitch, exaggerated intonation, simple words, and repeated syllables: Who's a good boy? Yes you are!

The term also describes an adult's immature or cutesy way of speaking: Stop with the babytalk and tell me what happened.

Children's early attempts at speech may also be called babytalk.
