baby blessing
Newborn religious ceremony
A baby blessing is a religious ceremony in which an infant receives prayers, well-wishes, or formal recognition from a faith community.
In Latter-day Saint practice, it's a specific ordinance where a father or priesthood holder gives the child a name and blessing shortly after birth.
Other traditions have similar rituals welcoming newborns into spiritual community: The family gathered for the baby blessing at church.
