auxiliary storage

External data repository

Auxiliary storage is computer memory that exists outside the main processing unit—hard drives, solid-state drives, USB sticks, optical discs.

Unlike RAM, auxiliary storage retains data when the computer is powered off.

The term is somewhat dated; external storage or secondary storage are now more common in technical contexts.
