checksums
Integrity verification values
Checksums are values computed from data to detect errors in transmission or storage.
A checksum algorithm processes a file or message and produces a short string; if the data changes even slightly, the checksum changes dramatically.
Recipients recalculate the checksum and compare it to the original—a mismatch indicates corruption or tampering.
Verify the download by comparing checksums.
