Operating without attention
Autopiloting is going through motions without conscious attention or engagement.
The term comes from the automatic navigation systems in aircraft, but applies to any routine activity performed mechanically: I was autopiloting through my commute and missed my exit.
Often describes a mental state of disengagement while the body continues familiar tasks.
