zoning out
Losing focus completely
Zoning out is losing focus or becoming mentally absent while appearing awake—staring blankly, not registering what's happening around you.
It can happen during boring meetings, long drives, or while someone is talking: Sorry, I totally zoned out—what did you say?
The state itself is also called a zone-out.
