aquanaut

Deep sea researcher

An aquanaut is a person who lives and works in an underwater habitat for extended periods, conducting research or exploration beneath the sea.

The term parallels astronaut, substituting water for the stars: The aquanauts spent two weeks in the undersea laboratory.

Sometimes used more loosely for any deep-sea diver or underwater explorer.
