approximateness

Quality of inexactness

Approximateness is the quality of being approximate—close to accurate or exact but not precisely so.

It acknowledges that a measurement, estimate, or description falls within an acceptable range rather than hitting a target perfectly.

The term appears most often in technical or academic contexts where precision matters but perfect accuracy isn't achievable: The approximateness of the data was sufficient for our preliminary analysis.

In everyday speech, people more commonly say "roughness" or simply note that something is "approximate."
