An ankle breaker is a basketball move so quick or deceptive that it causes a defender to stumble, fall, or appear to twist an ankle trying to keep up: He crossed him over so hard it was an ankle breaker.
The term celebrates the offensive player's skill while highlighting the defender's humiliation.
