A blocked shot is a defensive play in basketball, hockey, or other sports where a player deflects or stops an opponent's shot attempt before it reaches the goal.
In basketball, a player swats away a shot with their hand; in hockey, a player uses their body or stick.
Blocks are tracked as a statistic measuring defensive effectiveness: He had three blocked shots in the first half.
