abortion pill
Pharmaceutical pregnancy ender
A pill that terminates an early pregnancy, typically referring to mifepristone (which blocks the hormone needed to sustain pregnancy) often followed by misoprostol (which causes the uterus to contract and expel its contents).
The term usually describes medication abortion as distinct from surgical procedures: She took the abortion pill at eight weeks.
Also called the morning-after pill by some, though that term more accurately refers to emergency contraception that prevents pregnancy rather than ending one.
