copper IUD
Non-hormonal birth control
A copper IUD is a T-shaped contraceptive device inserted into the uterus, where copper wire wrapped around the frame creates an environment toxic to sperm.
Unlike hormonal IUDs, it uses no synthetic hormones, relying solely on copper's spermicidal effect.
It can remain effective for up to ten years and doubles as emergency contraception if inserted within five days of unprotected sex: She chose a copper IUD because she wanted hormone-free birth control.
