White House tapes
Nixon's secret recordings
The White House tapes are audio recordings made secretly during the Nixon administration from 1971 to 1973, capturing conversations in the Oval Office and other locations.
Their existence became central to the Watergate scandal when it was revealed that Nixon had installed a voice-activated recording system.
The tapes provided evidence of Nixon's involvement in covering up the Watergate break-in, ultimately leading to his resignation in 1974.
The Supreme Court ruled Nixon had to release the White House tapes.
