presidential records
White House archives
Presidential records are official documents, communications, and materials created or received by a U.S. president or their staff during the administration.
Under the Presidential Records Act, these become public property rather than the president's personal possession: The National Archives takes custody of presidential records when an administration ends.
The term often appears in discussions of document retention and declassification.
