Deep Throat

Anonymous government tipster

Deep Throat was the pseudonym of Mark Felt, the FBI official who served as a confidential source for Washington Post reporters investigating the Watergate scandal in the 1970s.

The name came from the 1972 pornographic film of the same title.

Deep Throat has since become shorthand for any anonymous insider who leaks sensitive information to journalists.

Every political scandal seems to need its own Deep Throat. (Lowercase deep throat is a sexual act or, generically, any confidential source.)
