The Lorax

The Lorax is the title character of a 1971 Dr.

Seuss children's book, a small orange creature who "speaks for the trees" against industrial exploitation.

The character has become a cultural symbol for environmental advocacy: She's the Lorax of our neighborhood, fighting every development proposal.

To invoke the Lorax is to reference principled but sometimes futile environmental protest.
