Sneetches

Sneetches are fictional creatures from Dr.

Seuss's 1961 story "The Sneetches," yellow bird-like beings divided by whether they have stars on their bellies.

Star-Belly Sneetches consider themselves superior to Plain-Belly Sneetches until a huckster's machine renders the distinction meaningless.

The story is a parable about arbitrary discrimination and prejudice: The whole thing was just Sneetches on beaches arguing about who belonged.
