Thing One is a character from Dr.
Seuss's *The Cat in the Hat*—one of two identical, wild-haired creatures (Thing One and Thing Two) who emerge from a box to cause gleeful chaos.
The pair has become shorthand for any duo acting in mischievous concert, or for distinguishing between two similar items or people: Which remote is which? This one's Thing One.
