Tempter

Serpent in Eden

A tempter is someone who entices another toward something forbidden, unwise, or pleasurable.

The word often carries moral weight—the devil is called the Tempter in Christian tradition.

More casually, anyone who dangles an attractive option might be called a tempter: Don't be a tempter—I'm trying to quit smoking.

The feminine form temptress emphasizes seductive allure.
