TV timeout
Broadcast advertising pause
A TV timeout is a break in a sporting event called specifically to accommodate television commercials, rather than for any strategic or gameplay reason.
These stoppages allow broadcasters to air advertisements during natural-seeming pauses: The refs called a TV timeout with two minutes left in the quarter.
Common in football, basketball, and hockey broadcasts.
