T-slot

Workbench mounting track

A T-slot is a groove cut into a surface—typically a machine table or workbench—with a cross-section shaped like an inverted T.

Bolts with specially shaped heads slide into the slot and can be tightened at any position along its length, allowing fixtures, clamps, or workpieces to be secured flexibly: The milling machine table has T-slots for holding down stock.

T-slot aluminum extrusions are widely used in modular framing systems.
