Hazy Appalachian peaks
The Smokies is short for the Great Smoky Mountains, a range along the Tennessee-North Carolina border known for the bluish haze that gives them their name: We're spending the weekend in the Smokies.
The term appears frequently in tourism and outdoor recreation contexts.
Separately, smokies are smoked sausages in some regional usage.
